Miss Britton's visit to Sierra Leone
I joined a number of local primary schools visiting and participating in community work in Sierra Leone, in conjunction with the Waterloo Partnership, who already facilitated various projects in the area.
Sierra Leone is located in West Africa and it ranks as one of the poorest countries in the world.
While I was there, I supported and offered training to schools less fortunate than us, and taught them how to deliver a stimulating and exciting curriculum in Literacy, Maths and Science.
I took a number of educational materials with me and, a variety of much needed resources including toiletries and clothing.
Due to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, The Waterloo Partnership schools have been unable to continue with visits to Sierra Leone.
However we still recognise that support and fundraising is still badly needed. St Monica's children have eagerly contributed by partaking in bake sales, fun runs and bracelet sales to raise funds.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Sierra Leone community, fundraising will continue and we hope to return one day.
Comenius European Links
St Monica's has a strong tradition of links with European schools. We were fortunate to participate in several Comenius projects, which were funded by the British Council.
These projects gave our staff and pupils the opportunity to share knowledge and skills with their European counterparts.
Our partner schools included schools from: Germany, Scotland, Spain, Italy, Poland, Turkey and Estonia. We helped each other to learn and share our experiences, gaining an insight into education systems different from our own, having fun and meeting friends.
