Democracy

Meet our School Councillors for 2023/24

Our School Council represents each year group in St Monica's and represents the voice of everyone! The School Council meet with Mr Gouldbourne and discuss any issues voiced to them by their peers. The School Councillors play an active part in ensuring democracy happens.

'An educated, enlightened and informed population is one of the surest ways of promoting the health of a democracy' - Nelson Mandela

School Council in Action

Our School Council love spreading the message of kindness, but more importantly they like to award St Monica's Pupils for this kindness. We came up with the idea of having our own 'blue School Council Postcards.' Our School Councillors look out for kindness on our yard and deliver blue postcards to those showing a kind mindset during play.

Democracy in 'PSHE'

Our PSHE lessons entail the British Value of 'Democracy' which are covered across our Jigsaw Curriculum. As our PSHE lessons involve alot of discussion, having a voice is at the central of our lesson. Through discussion with our peers, giving advice based on different scenarios, we are able to use our own thoughts and opinions to give advice to real-life situations.
