Year 5 Make Peace, Not Conflict! Five Ways to Resolve Disagreements

Year 5 Discover Five Ways to Resolve Conflict Peacefully

As part of our International Day of Peace celebrations, Year 5 have been exploring how we can resolve disagreements peacefully and build positive relationships with those around us.

The children learned about the Five Ways to Resolve Conflict approach: Stop, Listen, Talk, Think and Agree. They discussed a range of scenarios, considering how different situations might lead to disagreements and how we can respond calmly, respectfully and fairly.

Through thoughtful discussions, the children explored the importance of stopping before reacting, listening carefully to others’ points of view, talking about our feelings, thinking about possible solutions and agreeing on a positive way forward.

To share their learning, the children designed their own posters illustrating the five steps and explaining how these strategies can help us resolve conflicts in everyday life.

We were impressed by their thoughtful ideas and understanding of the importance of empathy, respect and compromise. These are valuable skills that help us create a happier, kinder and more peaceful school community.

At St Monica’s, we know that peace begins with the choices we make every day. By listening, understanding and working together, we can turn disagreements into opportunities to learn and grow.
