Collective Worship with Mr Gouldbourne 

St Monica’s began their first full week of the new school year with a fantastic collective worship led by Mr Gouldbourne.

This week, the children focused on the story of Nehemiah and explored how his determination, perseverance and resilience enabled him to overcome challenges and achieve his goals. We reflected on the importance of continuing to work towards our goals, even when the challenges we face may seem difficult or overwhelming.

We also explored how these qualities have been demonstrated by different athletes throughout history, learning about their inspiring stories and the obstacles they have overcome. The children were encouraged to consider how these examples can inspire us in our own lives and remind us that, with determination, resilience and perseverance, we can achieve things that may at first seem impossible.

“Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.”

(Nehemiah 6:9)

This powerful verse reminds us that when we face challenges, we should not give up. Instead, we can ask God to give us the strength, courage and determination to keep going and achieve our goals.

Faith in Action

The children were encouraged to put their faith into action by showing determination and resilience in their own lives. Whether it is persevering with a challenging piece of work, supporting a friend who is struggling, trying something new or refusing to give up when things become difficult, we can all follow Nehemiah’s example. By trusting in God and asking Him to “strengthen our hands”, we can face challenges with courage, support one another and continue striving to become the best version of ourselves.
