RE Co-ordinator's Welcome

R.E. Coordinator's Welcome

Welcome to our R.E. page for St Monica’s Catholic Primary School.

My name is Miss McGiveron, and I am the proud R.E. Coordinator for our school.

Our Mission Statement is at the heart of everything we do here at St Monica’s. "Success for all in a Christ Centred Community".  Through our carefully planned Religious Education curriculum, we aim to help pupils grow and develop their God-given gifts, talents, and skills whilst deepening their understanding of faith.

Our curriculum is designed to reflect the unique context of our school, embracing our call to welcome, worship, and witness. We place a strong focus on the wellbeing of all staff and pupils, ensuring that the Word of God is central to our teaching, learning, and worship.

As a school, we encourage pupils to care of our world and protect our common home. Through activities such as gardening, planting, recycling and outdoor learning projects, our children learn practical ways to live out their faith by protecting the environment - just as Pope Leo has asked of us.

At St Monica’s, we are dedicated to nurturing the faith of all our children with Jesus Christ as our guiding light. While Catholic life is at our core, we also ensure that pupils gain a rich understanding of other world faiths. This helps them to develop respect, appreciation, and empathy, preparing them to live as responsible members of a multi-faith, multi-cultural society. We are a loving school to all children and welcome every single one of our pupils with the same love and care.

Our Prayer and Liturgy sessions provide beautiful opportunities to gather as a school community, whether in class settings or in times like assembly. These celebrations and reflections see us reflect, often lifting our voices in hymns and prayer. These occasions are deeply spiritual and help pupils encounter the presence of the Holy Spirit in their daily lives.

In lessons, we follow the ‘Come and See’ and RED schemes of work, both of which enrich pupils’ knowledge of scripture and Catholic teaching while guiding them to live more like Jesus in all they do. Lessons are supported by reflection, discussion, prayer, music, and links to the liturgical calendar, the wider Church, and global events. Each year group explores age-appropriate themes that deepen pupils’ understanding of the Catholic faith.

Alongside this, ‘Come and See’ and the RED curriculum provides opportunities for pupils to learn about other world religions, building a broader appreciation of faith and belief traditions, and encouraging them to live respectfully in our diverse society.

We visit St Monica's church on a regular basis so our children can connect to our Faith and develop a strong relationship with our parish priest, Father Ged. We cherish our relationship with Father Ged, an ex pupil of St Monica's and a priest of great stature.

We also respond to Pope Leo XIV’s call to holiness, drawing inspiration from the Word of God. At St Monica’s, our pupils are encouraged to follow his example by loving the poor, seeking justice, living with integrity, and caring for one another just as Jesus teaches us.
