Year One

A very warm welcome from our Year 1 staff team here in St Monica's.

This year marks an exciting new chapter in your child’s learning journey as they move up from Reception and into Key Stage 1 here in St Monica's.

In Year 1, our children will continue to build upon the strong foundations they have already made, developing greater independence, confidence and curiosity in their learning.

Our classrooms are happy, calm places where children are encouraged to ask questions, explore new ideas and celebrate their achievements. We will enjoy a wide range of learning experiences together – from reading and writing, to problem-solving in maths, exploring the wonders of science, and discovering more about the world around us.

At the heart of all we do are our school values: Faith, Aspiration, Resilience and Respect. We want every child to feel valued and supported as they grow in their learning and in their friendships.

We look forward to working in close partnership with you throughout the year to support your child’s progress, celebrate their successes and make this a joyful and memorable year for them.

Here’s to a fantastic year ahead in Year 1!

PE Days are: Monday and Friday

Our Classrooms in Year 1

 Phonics and Early Reading

Please help and support your child's reading at home. It is important to continue rehearsing the phonics sounds taught and help spot these when reading. We will be learning phonics daily and supporting your child by learning the sounds they will be bringing home is a huge support.

Please continue to support your child at home and ensure you read daily with them. Happy reading!
