Welcome to Year 6 at St Monica’s

A warm welcome to our Year 6 families and pupils!

Year 6 is a very special and exciting year at St Monica’s. As the oldest children in the school, our Year 6 pupils take on new responsibilities, grow in confidence, and prepare for the transition to secondary school. It’s a time of challenge, celebration, and personal growth—and we are here to support every child every step of the way.

What to Expect in Year 6

In Year 6, learning is engaging, purposeful, and designed to prepare pupils not just for secondary school, but for life beyond St Monica’s. We aim to build independence, resilience, and a love of learning in a supportive and encouraging environment.

We encourage our pupils to always try their best, take pride in their work, and reflect on their progress. We want them to leave St Monica’s feeling confident, capable, and ready for the next chapter in their educational journey.

Taking on New Roles

Year 6 pupils are given opportunities to shine as leaders and role models across the school. Whether as House Captains, School Councillors, or Buddies to our Reception children, they play an important part in our school community and help to uphold the values that make St Monica’s so special.

SATs and Beyond

While SATs are an important part of Year 6, they are just one milestone in a much bigger journey. We prepare our pupils in a calm and supportive way, ensuring they feel confident and well-equipped, while also focusing on their emotional and social development.

After SATs, we enjoy a variety of special events and experiences, including trips, creative projects, and end-of-year celebrations—giving pupils a chance to reflect on their time at St Monica’s and look forward to what lies ahead.
