A Very Warm Welcome from the Year 2 Team at St Monica’s

We are delighted to welcome you and your child to Year 2 — an exciting and important stage in their learning journey here at St Monica’s.

Year 2 is a special year as it marks the final step in Key Stage 1, preparing children for the transition into the juniors. It’s a time of growing confidence, independence, and curiosity — and we’re here to guide and support them every step of the way.

Our Year 2 classrooms are cheerful, busy places where learning is fun and exciting. We enjoy listening to stories, asking lots of questions, and helping each other do our best. This year, we’ll become even better at reading and writing, practise our number skills, explore fascinating topics in Science, and learn amazing things about our world. Each day is a new chance to explore, play, and grow together.

Our school values — Faith, Aspiration, Resilience, and Respect — are woven into everything we do. They guide our learning, shape our relationships, and help us grow together as a caring and supportive community.

We want every child in Year 2 to feel special, supported, and confident – in their learning and with their friends. By being kind, caring, and encouraging, we help each other grow. We learn new things, look after one another, and become brave, thoughtful, and strong inside and out.

We’re excited to work closely with you this year to support your child’s learning, celebrate their achievements, and help make Year 2 a happy, fun, and memorable time for them.

Here’s to a fantastic year ahead in Year 2!
