Oracy
St. Monica's Debate Day
Here at St. Monica's, we believe that a high-quality oracy education is vital to not only improve academic outcomes of students but also to foster their confidence and wellbeing. In November, we held a Debate Day to promote oracy across the school.
Key Stage 1 debated the motion: the school day should be made longer. Whereas, Key Stage 2 debate the motion: plastic should be banned.
The children learned the importance of debating and how listening is an integral part to a successful debate. Children either represented the proposition or opposition and constructed arguments, backed by evidence, to support their argument.
