Our Vision: Statement of Ethos and Values

Statement of Ethos and Values

Our school is based on the teachings of our Lord and the Catholic Church, fostering a special relationship between home, school, parish and community. We aim to be an inclusive, caring school where we can give everyone the time and support they need to develop; building a confident, resilient, responsible and spiritually healthy community of people.  We strive to do our best for ourselves and each other, challenging and guiding one another – opening minds and widening horizons – working together towards the flourishing of all members of our school community so that everyone can fulfil their potential as 'St Monica's Citizens of the Future."

Mission Statement

We recognise our responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all our pupils by protecting them from physical, sexual or emotional abuse, neglect and bullying.

Here at St Monica’s, we value:

  • Our truthfulness, honesty, politeness and consideration towards others
  • Respect and tolerance of the opinions and beliefs of others.
  • Commitment and determination to realise aspirations and the ability to inspire confidence and courage to achieve success.
  • The qualities of patience and sensitivity towards one another;
  • Self-discipline, self-respect, empathy and the capacity to live as an independent, self-motivated person with an awareness of our sociality and the world community.
  • Our children’s inquisitive and imaginative minds,  their questions, communication skills  and participation as members of groups and teams

Here at St Monica’s, our Core Values are:

  • Faith
  • Aspiration
  • Resilience
  • Respect

Safeguarding:

Here at St Monica’s we protect the welfare and safety of all members of our school community.  We respect and value each person as unique and safeguard their right be themselves in a school that celebrates diversity and equality.  We work as a team to create a healthy, active, caring and safe environment to protect the physical, emotional, social and mental welfare of your children.

Respect: Our Safety Code

  • Respect is shown to the views and values of others and their right to feel safe
  • Every adult will safeguard the children
  • Special care is taken not to hurt others with our words or actions
  • People listen to pupils and take them seriously
  • Everyone cares and will maintain the safety of our environment
  • Collaboration between home and school is key, and swift and decisive action is taken if a child’s welfare is threatened
  • Together we teach the children how to stay safe, happy and healthy: both in school, outside of school and online

Ethos:

The culture of our school will be based on the principles of dialogue, inclusion and mutual respect. All dealings between staff, students and parents will be characterised by a code of common courtesy and good manners. Partnership, working together and celebrating our diverse cultures, are the corner stone of our school community.

We are committed to providing a service to our students who are recognised as the most important group within the school community. Staff will demonstrate due consideration and respect for their students. Students' rights to voice opinions will be recognised and staff will work with students to deal with their concerns.
The efforts which members of staff make to improve the learning process and promote partnership will be recognised by students adopting an active role in their own learning.

When dealing with difficult situations we will seek to resolve problems by mediation, respecting the feelings of all involved.

The school will continue to develop its existing positive links with the local parish and community and promote civic pride in its achievements and reputation.

SCHOOL AIMS:

  • To provide the highest quality of learning and teaching in all that we do
  • To develop an ethos that promotes aspiration in all that we do at St Monica’s, with attainment and achievement beyond expectation
  • To develop links between home, school and community and promote good relationships
  • To promote the intellectual, social and physical development of the individual
  • To provide a broad and balanced curriculum across its elements
  • To deliver all of the above within a thriving Catholic ethos
